These two things provide you with the fundamentals of working with exponents. The homework is pictured below. You are to do all problems. Please show all steps used in finding your answers.

The solutions to the odd homework problems follow.

The solutions to the odd homework problems follow.

__Second section.__

Here we will look at rational (fractional) exponents and their relationship with radical expressions. The following video will help with the process.

Some practice writing from rational exponents to radical expressions and from radical expressions to rational exponents.

__Third section.__

In this section, we look at solving radical equations. These are equations that have radicals in them (go figure). in general, we isolate the radical on one side, square both sides of the equation and then solve the remaining algebraic equation. There is a worksheet to help you practice below the video.

Another of the skills we need to develop is adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing radical expressions. The rules shown below provide an overview of how to do these things. Some videos and worksheets will follow to help reinforce these operations.

This assignment will just add, subtract and multiply. Because division is more complex, we will look at division separately.

Division of radicals.

As we start working with rational expressions, (fractions made up of algebraic expressions instead of numbers) we need to see how these rational expressions can be simplified.

Below is a video that may be helpful in understanding this process.

**In this next section, we will add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational expressions. Below is a video that explains how this is done.**

Remember, when we add or subtract, we need to have a common denominator. If we are multiplying or dividing, we don't need a common denominator.

Below you will find some worksheets with the answers so you can practice these skills.

Adding and Subtracting

The final part of these rational expressions is solving rational equations. Below is a short video that shows the basic process.

The document below is a step by step explanation of how to solve rational equations along with a few examples. This should be helpful in guiding you through some problems.

Below is a worksheet on solving rational equations. We have worked in class on this sheet and it is a good representation of the types of questions you can expect to see on the unit test.
