Relations & Functions

**are simply a set of ordered pairs, each x value is somehow related to some y value.**

__Relations__**of a relation or function is the set of x values. It could be a finite set of values or an infinite set of values depending on the relation or function. These are usually written in set notation when they are infinite.**

__Domain__**of a relation or function is the set of y values. These are also either a finite or infinite set of values depending on the relation or function. These are also usually written in set notation when infinite.**

__Range__Function is a special relation in which

__every x value has only one y value.__The x values can't repeat.

**is a way to test whether a graph represents a function. It is simply if you can draw a vertical line anywhere on a graph and it intersects the graph in more then one point, the graph does not represent a function.**

__Vertical Line Test____is a way to represent a "rule" or equation. In function notation, instead of y = x, we would write f(x) = x. This simply names the function (f) and indicates the variable used (x).__

**Function Notation**Slope and Rate of Change

__- This section explores the concept of slope in a linear function. The definition is;__

**Slope**The ratio of the change in the y coordinates (rise) to the change in x coordinates (run).
